BAIV BV – Calculation Estimation Worksheet
Let’s be realistic, properly restoring historic Armoured Vehicles & Tanks, that are more than 70 years old, is expensive. We have that knowledge, based on decades experience in the automotive business and our knowledge of restoring old WW2 equipment.
Therefore we built and optimized in Q4 2014 and Q1 2015 our own BAIV BV – Calculation Estimation Worksheet program. To make REAL and REALISTIC project estimations and to give a realistic price indication, instead of just lump sum prices for our beloved customers and clients.
Most individuals don’t realize the work, expenses and hours that go into a WW2 vehicle restoration and the details that can be easily overlooked or the search for extreme rare spare parts and items for such piece of history. There are always hidden challenges which add to the final cost.
For example: Any idea what a set NOS (New Old Stock) tracks cost for a tank like a Sherman? Or what about overhauling a Rolls-Royce Merlin, liquid-cooled, V-12, piston aero engine of 27-liter or a 9 cylinder radial engine? Pricing… maybe a nice small or midsize car?
A restoration process is difficult and requires a best possible accurate estimate for all challenges during such project. That requires identification & purchase, disassembling, paint striped, surface sandblasting, cleaning, make / buy / repair parts and assembly before finishing your vehicle.
Our calculation index, model and program and estimation worksheet is based and combined on: Several Allied WW2 Ordnance Supply Catalog’s, Repair and Service manuals like trucks, half-tracks and tanks.
This resulted in our 3 layer detailed calculation program with 30 chapters, over 60 sections & sub sections and more than 300 detailed line items to give our customers and clients detailed information about their beloved Collectible piece of history.

A Very nice movie of a Centaur Dozer Tank
The Centaur Dozer ’43 / ’44 Dozer Tank “Funny Tank”
World War II History:
The first armored bulldozer was developed by the British during World War II.
This was a conventional Caterpillar D8 bulldozer fitted with armor to protect the driver and the engine.
The work was carried out by Jack Olding & Company Ltd of Hatfield.
The bulldozer was one of several strange armored vehicles that were collectively referred to as “Hobart’s Funnies” and were operated by the British 79th Armoured Division in support of armored assaults.
The bulldozers were produced in preparation for the Battle of Normandy with the tasks of clearing the invasion beaches of obstacles and quickly making roads accessible by clearing rubble and filling in bomb craters.
As allied armies advanced through Europe, the armored bulldozer was found to be too slow and there was a need for well-armoured, obstacle clearing vehicle that was fast enough to keep up with tank formations.
This need was met by the Centaur Bulldozer a Centaur tank with the turret removed and a bulldozer blade fitted.
Centaur bulldozers were still in use with the British Army at the time of the Korean War.
